SPRING-SUMMER BEGINNER & INTERMEDIATE STAINED GLASS

In this class you will learn the basic techniques required to create a stained glass panel. Learn how to cut and shape glass, how to foil and solder, and how to assemble your project for a beautiful completed stained glass panel, handmade by you! For the cost of $150.00 (plus tax), it includes 4 continuous weeks of instruction, a beginner’s stained glass pattern, glass and everything you need to complete your first project. There are no additional costs! Class meets once a week for four weeks – 3 hours session each class. All beginner students will receive a 15% discount on week 4 of class to purchase your own materials and supplies.

INTERMEDIATE STAINED GLASS CLASSES:

Take your stained glass to the next level! Intermediate class will focus on perfecting your cutting, foiling and soldering skills. Learn advanced cutting techniques and how to frame your projects in different materials. The cost of this class is $85.00 and it sells out quickly! Students will need to supply their own tools and materials for this class.

In this intermediate to advanced level class, students create three-dimensional glass sculptures. Students learn the process of casting glass from two highly skilled instructors who walk you step-by-step through the mold making and glass firing processes. A wide-variety of materials are used included glass billets, frits, powders and hand pulled stringers. Students will leave with in-depth knowledge of the glass arts and mold making. Beginning level fused glass is encouraged. Students must wear closed toe shoes.

If you are already fusing – add this exciting technique to your skill set!  Create your designs and patterns using simple materials to create contours and textures into the glass Firing takes place after the workshop, so your finished piece will be available for pickup a few days after class. About Glassstress: Part of a new curatorial initiative to examine areas traditionally considered ‘craft,’ but which present alternative mediums of increasing interest to contemporary artists, Glasstress features 25-30 glass installations created by contemporary artists from around the world in collaboration with the international organization Glasstress, Venice and the master glass artisans of Berengo Studio, Murano. The results challenge our notion of glass as a ‘beautiful’ material and encourage us to explore the bold, political, and sometimes less than pristine aspects of the medium. Works included in the Glasstress Boca Raton exhibition incorporate performance, video, interactive media, design, and even video games, and delve into substantial content, from race, identity, and colonialism to themes of science and nature and issues of biological diversity, global hunger, and climate change

Merging the age-old art of glass casting with modern technology and contemporary design, Colour de Verre molds can be filled with glass powders, pate de verre, glass frits, or cut sheet glass. In this class students will create stunning 3-dimensional Colour de Verre cast box. Even better – the class includes the Colour de Verre mold so you can continue to create with this unique technique. No experience necessary!About Irene: Irene has working as a glass artist for the past12 years and owns Palm Beach Smashing Glass.  Her art glass has been shown in numerous galleries here and around Florida. Her creations include both fused and cast glass sculptures, jewelry, Judaiica, and items for the home.

Gain elementary knowledge of kiln formed glass in this two hour course. Fundamental fusing terminology, techniques, and principles will be covered. The class begins with a lecture and remaining time is spent creating a set of four fused glass coasters. This is an entry level fused glass class, no experience is necessary. After completing this class, students will be eligible to register for our intermediate level fusing classes. All materials are included.

In this full-day students will learn a multitude of jewelry design techniques that can be achieved using dichroic glass, as well as NEW puddle glass cabochon technique! The instructor will demonstrate techniques such as reverse etching, using a dremmel tool, and decal application. A variety of methods for making your fused dichroic and puddle glass pieces wearable will be covered as well. Students will create four pendants. All materials are included. Introductory level fusing knowledge is encouraged.


Wednesday May 10th COMPREHENSIVE CUTTING COURSE 6-9pm $85.00 *Beginner Level*

In this three hour course Phil will teach students about different cutting & breaking tools, how to cut glass, and the dos & don’ts of cutting glass. The class will end with a brief overview of a helpful cutting tool, The Morton System. This class is perfect for students who have taken an entry level fusing, mosaic, or stained glass class and are looking to improve or brush up on cutting skills. After taking this course, students should be comfortable enough with cutting to start working on pieces on their own. A 15% discount will be offered on cutting tools!

NEW Saturday May 13th REVERSE METHOD MOSAICS w/Special Guest Debbie Davis 9am-3pm $150.00 *Beginner Level*

Horse in the Fall

This class is an introduction to a reverse method of mosaics which uses tape instead of gluing each piece separately. This method allows for more versatility and a cleaner application. The gluing takes place at the completion of the project. This workshop is open to beginner and intermediate levels.

About Debbie Davis: Davis is a mosaic artist from North Palm Beach, Florida. She was recently accepting as an emerging artist at Artigras 2017. She has trained with several well-known mosaic artists, but is mostly self-taught, drawing from the inspiration of Antoni Gaudí, and other great mosaic artists of the past. Through her art, Debbie would like to inspire others to express passion, love and simplicity in all they do.

Cutting techniques, kiln preparation, firing schedules, and compatibility & COE are just a few of the necessary fusing concepts that will be covered. Students are encouraged to focus on, and consider design when creating their choice of a fused & slumped plate or sushi platter. Introduction to Fused Glass (or equivalent) is a prerequisite. In this FREE demonstration, participants will learn how to safely use a variety of coldworking tools to shape and bevel the edges of a fused glass piece, as well as how to sand and grind the top and bottom surfaces of a kilnformed object. Students will be introduced to the tile saw, belt sander, lap wheel, angle grinder, loose grit, lathe, diamond hand laps and sandblaster. The demo will also include a discussion on the effects of fire polishing coldworked surfaces.

Wednesday June 14th DOTS & STRIPES Fusing with Rods 6:30-8:30pm $75.00 *Beginner Level*

Explore a new form of glass: rods! In this two-hour project-based class, you’ll work with a huge palette of opalescent sheet glass and rods to create two stylish square plates, one with stripes and another with dots. Your plates will be fired after class and available for pick-up a few days later. All materials and kiln firings included.

Do you love the Masters? In this class, you will learn how to turn selected Matisse painted gouache cutouts into a workable glass pattern to cut and create your own masterpiece, and play with the techniques required to turn a Pollock canvas into a fused glass abstract impressionist drip painting. Cutting experience required.

Wednesday June 28th & Wednesday July 5th INTRODUCTION TO PATE DE VERRE w/ Phil 6pm-9pm $250 this is a Two-Part Course *Beginner Fusing Experience Required*

Patte-De-Verre Bowls
Learn the basics of pâte de verre from start to finish while making a thin-walled, kilnformed bowl in this hands-on workshop. (The term literally means “paste of glass” in French.) Make a plaster silica mold from a model, pack it with glass, fire it, then divest and finish it. Students will have access to a broad palette of colored frit and samples to help predict and understand fired qualities. Demonstrations will include various techniques of working with glass powders against the mold, working with color reactions, as well as how to back-fill a packed mold to support the walls of the piece during firing. No prerequisites
